Why does my Telegram private video link not work for other people?

A private message link uses the t.me/c/ format, which points at an internal channel ID rather than a public username. It only resolves for accounts that are already members of that channel. For anyone else, including any download tool, it leads nowhere — it is a bookmark, not a shareable address.

What is the difference between a t.me link and a t.me/c/ link?

A public link looks like t.me/channelname/123 and can be opened by anyone, logged in or not. A private link looks like t.me/c/1234567890/123, where the number is the channel internal ID. The public form addresses a published resource; the private form addresses a location only members can reach.

Can a downloader accept a private Telegram video link?

No tool that runs on a remote server can, because the link only resolves inside an authenticated session belonging to a member. A browser extension does not need the link at all — it works on the video already open in your own logged-in session, which sidesteps the problem entirely.

How do I share a video from a private channel with someone?

Telegram Private Video Link: Why Pasting It Never Works

You copied the link to a video in a private channel, pasted it into a downloader, and got nothing. That is not a bug in the tool. A private Telegram link is a fundamentally different kind of address from a public one — and once you can see the difference in the URL itself, the whole category of “paste your link here” sites stops being confusing.

Read the URL: the two formats

Telegram produces two shapes of message link, and they are not interchangeable:

The /c/ is the tell. That long number is not a username anyone can look up — it is Telegram's internal identifier for a channel with no public address at all. The link is closer to a bookmark that only works inside your own session than to a web address.

Why no tool can accept the /c/ link

When a website asks you to paste a Telegram link, it is going to fetch that URL from its own server. That server is not a member of your private channel. Telegram looks at the request, sees an account with no membership, and returns nothing.

There is no clever workaround, because this is the access control functioning exactly as intended. The only way that server could succeed is by being logged in as you — which is why the sites promising private-link support ask for your phone number and login code. The third link type people confuse with it

An invite link (t.me/+AbCdEf…) genuinely is shareable, which causes a reasonable mix-up. But it does something different: it invites the recipient to join the channel. It does not point at a video and it will not hand media to a download tool. Once someone has joined via that link, ordinary message links start resolving for them — because now they are a member.

So the honest sequence for sharing private content is: invite them, or forward them the file. Not paste them a /c/ link.

What to do instead, depending on what you actually want

You want to save the video yourself. Skip links entirely. Open the channel in your own logged-in Telegram Web session and save from there — the link was never the useful part.
You want to send it to a friend. Forward the message, or save the file and send it as an attachment.
You want them to see the whole channel. Send an invite link, if the channel permits you to generate one.

If you cannot forward the message either, the channel has content protection switched on. Common questions

Why does my own /c/ link work when I click it? Because you are a member. Your session resolves the internal ID; someone else's does not.

Can I convert a private link to a public one? No. The channel owner would have to give the channel a public username, which changes the channel itself, not the link.

Does the number in the /c/ link identify the channel publicly? It is an internal ID with no public lookup, so it is not useful to anyone outside.

I saved the link before leaving the channel — will it still work? No. Once you are no longer a member the link stops resolving for you too.
